English Riding Lessons

We have lessons for all standards of rider from beginners to basic showjumping and dressage, with or without your own horse. We welcome many ‘older’ beginner riders and ‘returnees’ who may have ridden as children and wish to start riding again later in life.  Burley Villa holds British Horse Society training courses and exams taught by Tammy Greaves BHSAI

English Riding Lessons are available Wednesday through to Sunday with late lessons  on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings.  We have two arenas for instruction, a large bright Indoor Arena 60 metres by 20 metres, and an All Weather Outdoor Floodlit Arena which is 48 metres by 25 metres.

Adult group Lessons

Wednesday Mornings

10am – Adult Group Lesson Level 1/2 - This new class is for riders who are either new to riding or have a little experience and returning to riding. It is also ideal for nervous riders. The lesson will cover all the basics including mount up & dismount, adjusting stirrups, checking girths, steering stopping and eventually adding in trot work, both rising & sitting.

11am - Adult Group Lesson Level 3- This lesson is for riders who are competent at Rising & Sitting Trot. With the expectation of starting some canter work in the future.

Thursday Afteroons

5.15pm – Adult Group Lesson Level 4/5 – Flatwork and Pole work group. The class will cover the riders position, effectiveness and feel for their horse in walk trot and canter. We will also work on our light seat and jumping position with the introduction of ground pole exercises and small jumps. At this stage we will focus on the 5 Stages of Jumping. Unless you are known to us you will need to do an assessment lesson prior to joining this group.

Saturdays

3pm - Adult Group Lesson Level 3 - This lesson is for riders who are competent at Rising & Sitting Trot. With the expectation of starting some canter work in the future.

4pm – Adult Group Lesson Level 1/2 - This new class is for riders who are either new to riding or have a little experience and returning to riding. It is also ideal for nervous riders. The lesson will cover all the basics including mount up & dismount, adjusting stirrups, checking girths, steering stopping and eventually adding in trot work, both rising & sitting.

These groups are 45 min lessons and cost £45 per session. On most of these groups you can buy a class pass of 6 sessions with a 10% discount. The minimum age is 12 years and over and the maximum weight is 14 stone. The maximum number of riders will be 5 to a session. If there are 3/4/5 riders the lesson is 45 minutes. If there are 1/2 riders the session will be 30 minutes.

And on Fridays

10am - Adult Ride and Care Lesson with Ginny - This is a one hour lesson for Rider Level 1/2, which will incorporate a riding lesson as well as starting some of the basics of Horse Care, such as Tacking Up, After Care, Grooming and more.

Intro to Dressage with Corrina – time tbc - This is a lesson for riders who are competent to walk trot and canter, but would now like to start to find out about and to understand how to start riding a dressage test and more importantly how to make you and your horse look and feel more balanced and in harmony. These groups are 1 hour lessons and cost £50 per session. The minimum age is 12 years and over and the maximum weight is 14 stone. The maximum number of riders will be 5 to a session. If there are 3/4/5 riders the lesson is 45 minutes. If there are 1/2 riders the session will be 30 minutes.

On all bookings we ask for 48hrs notice of cancellation or change to avoid full charge.

Private ‘one to one’ lessons … limited midweek availability

For riders who feel that they will benefit from individual instruction or want a lunge lesson a 30 minute or 45 minute private arena lesson is a great way to progress your riding. These are available Wednesdays , Thursdays and Fridays during the day . Should you want an evening time slot then you will probably need to join a waiting list currently. We do not offer weekend private lessons. The cost for a 30 minute lesson is from £45 and a 45 minute lesson from £55. A Class Pass can be purchased for 6 lessons offering you a 10% discount.

Shared lessons … up to three riders with one Instructor. This is a great way to enjoy a lesson with your friends or family in the arena. These are available from Wednesday to Sunday and cost from £40 per person for 30 minutes and from £50 per person for 45 minutes.

British Horse Society Training Courses… We hold Stage 1 and Stage 2 courses along with Ride Safe Training for riders looking to further their knowledge or help with their career path in horses.

Camps & Clinics…we regularly hold special events for our adult clients. Please check our Facebook page or Events page for updates.

Dressage Competitions…we run a Winter Series of Dressage Competitions and our clients get the chance to compete on one of our school horses.

Guidelines – Our maximum weight is 14st/90kg for all riding activities. Beginners are welcome. Riding is not suitable during pregnancy and may not be suitable for some other medical conditions and disabilites. If in doubt please check with the stables before booking.
